The tour begins with a
walking tour that will take you to know the historical center of Mérida, one of the main archeological sites in Spain, declared a
World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1993.
As you stroll through the streets of the city, you can see in the first person not only the Theater and the Amphitheater, its two most emblematic monuments, but other representative monuments of Merida and discover its history, anecdotes and curiosities with the comments that will provide the guide.
You will visit the Archeological Zone of Morerías, the Arabian Alcazaba and you will be surprised with the beautiful Temple of Diana and the Roman Museum
After the guided tour, you will have free time for lunch (lunch not included) before heading to Medellín, the next stop of the tour.
Due to its strategic situation, Medellín was a key point for Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians, who were leaving throughout time the imprint in the city and its surroundings.
The first thing that you will do when you arrive will be to contemplate the spectacular views that are observed from the top of the hill in which is the strength of Medellín.
You will see the whole surrounding plain, the Puente de los Austrias (also called the Puente de Felipe IV) and the Medellín city center, which highlights the silhouette of the Church of Santa Cecilia (16th-18th centuries).
Already in the center of the city, you will take a pleasant walk through the Hernán Cortés Square, conqueror of Mexico, in which you can contemplate the bronze statue of this well-known personage. You will also see some pillars and other remains of the old Roman bridge, completely destroyed by a flood of the river in the seventeenth century.
You will pass by the Church of San Martín of century XIII, in whose sacristía the granitic pile in which Hernán Cortés was baptized is conserved. And of course, you will see the ruins of his Roman Theater.
Later, you will return to Cáceres or Merida with a beautiful memory of this experience in Extremadura.
