After a journey of approximately 2 hours from Madrid, we will arrive in Cuenca, where we will begin with a guided tour of the Cathedral of Santa María and San Julián, the first Gothic cathedral of Castilla, built by order of Alfonso VIII and consecrated in honor of Santa Maria in 1208. The visit to the Cathedral is complemented by an impressive height view from the Triforio of the Catedral de Cuenca, from where you can take the best panoramic photographs of the city and the charming landscape that surrounds it.
You will also see the Catedral Tesoro Museum of Cuenca, which exhibits more than 200 pieces by important artists, highlighting two wonderful works by El Greco, as well as the Byzantine Diptych or Reliquary of the Despots of Epirus, and a large collection of tapestries and carpets.
Afterwards, we will head to the Casas Colgadas (Hanging Houses), a set of buildings that constitute the best example of local popular architecture, recognized for their large balconies that stand out on the elevated cornice of the sickle of the Huécar River. There you will also find the Museum of Abstract Art, which displays paintings and sculptures by Spanish artists from the mid-20th century, such as Canogar, Chillida, Feito, Millares, Oteiza, Tapies, Torner, Zobel.
Then, we will pass by the San Pablo Bridge, which crosses the Huécar River offering an incredible view of the Hanging Houses.
We will pause to enjoy a delicious traditional lunch in a typical city restaurant (optional, on your own). After lunch, we will take a guided tour of the old town of Cuenca. You will walk through its picturesque alleys, passing through the most emblematic sites of the city, while our guide tells you all the stories and curiosities about Cuenca.
