In the moorning, you will appreciate the symbol of Spanish power in the sixteenth century: the Monastery of El Escorial.
The Monastery was built under the reign of the powerful King Philip II to be a Residence for the Kings, Monastery and Pantheon of the Royal Family, becoming as a symbol of the great power of the Spanish Empire on the time. The monument was declared of Artistic and Historic interest and "Mankind Heritage".
The tour includes the Monastery, the Cloister of the Four Evangelists, the Royal Palace of Philip II, Pantheons of the Royal Family, the Chapterhouses and the Basilica.
Your next stop will be the Valley of the Fallen, 9 km from El Escorial, a monument built as a memorial of those who died during the Spanish Civil war. Located in the beautiful Valley of Cuelgamuros, in the Mountains of Guadarrama, this impressive work has a colossal cross over 150 mts.high, and the Basilica and Crypt excavated in the hard rock under the mountain.
We will return to Madrid for lunch (not included). Later you will begin the second part of the tour in Toledo, the “City of the Three Cultures”.
Toledo is a beautiful city-museum declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is one of the oldest towns in Europe and has a great artistic beauty and buildings from almost all periods in history (Arabian, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque style).
Upon arrival you will have free time and later you will enjoy a walking tour of Toledo, stroll by the old quarter to visit the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and admire the facade of the impressive Primate Cathedral, the old Palace of Justice and the City Hall.
You will continue the guided walking tour by the Jewish Quarter with its narrow streets to visit the Church of St. Tomé, with the famous painting of El Greco "The Burial of Count Orgaz" and the old Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca, which remain as a symbol of the coexistence of the "Three Cultures".
You will also visit a typical factory of Damascene, well known handicraft art of Toledo.
