The beautiful Basque Coast of Zumaia gives us impressive rock formations called “flysh”, a treasure for nature lovers! Discover this wonderful enclave with our Flysch and Zumaia tour, where for 4 hours we will explore part of the Geopark of the Basque Coast, visiting Zumaia village and its cliffs.
We will start our tour from the city of Donostia-San Sebastian. We will meet our guide at 9:30am in front of Eusketren Amara station, where we will board the first train bound for Zumaia.
After about 40 minutes of journey, in which the guide will introduce us to all that we will observe during the Flysch and Zumaia tour, we will head towards the coast of Zumaia village, where we will begin the the Flysch Route, so known for its curious and beautiful rock formations of sedimentary origin.
We will continue walking through the streets of the town of Zumaia to see Olazabal house and learn more about this ancient palace, talk about modern customs of the local culture, and discover the church of San Pedro Apostol.
Later we will stroll along Itzurun beach to see its cliffs, while we learn about the geological features of the place and common throughout the Geopark of Zumaia. We will also pass by the Hermitage of San Telmo and descend to the cove of Algorri, where we will discover about the usefulness of geology to understand how dinosaurs became extinct.
The tour ends in a local tavern, having a drink and a traditional pintxo like “Octopus Soup”. The guide will give you all the directions you need and the different options to return to Donostia, including the same morning train.
The morning tour (9:30 hours) departs from San Sebastian. The afternoon tour begins in Zumaia (16:30 hours).
In the morning tour one-way train from San Sebastian is included. Return train is not included. But don't worry, because the guide will give you all the necessary directions to take the train back on your own.
On the afternoon tour, roundtrip transportation is not included. You will meet the guide directly in Zumaia.
