Let yourself be captivated with this tour to Montserrat, the magical mountain of Catalonia, ascending in the rack railway. In Cardona, visit the castle with its 11th century tower and the Salt mountain. And of course, tapas and wine will not be lacking!
We will begin the tour from Barcelona in a comfortable coach towards Cardona, where we will visit the modern fortress and the parts of the old castle of Cardona, built in the year 886, of Romanesque and Gothic styles. We will explore the Sala Dorada and the Sala del Entresols and its tower of the Minyona (from the 11th century), 15 meters high and the Romanesque church of San Vicente de Cardona.
We will continue the visit to the mountain of Salt in Cardona, a natural wonder that welcomes in its interior an old mining exploitation, the old installations of Nieves mines.
We will visit the Salt Mountain Cultural Park, inside the Nieves Mine enclosure, a unique experience that runs through the interior of the old mines and galleries in a guided tour of 86 m deep. We will know the history of the industrial exploitation of the Valley and we will also see the mineral extraction machinery, just as it was when it was fully operational.
After the visit to the Salt Mines, we will pause to regain strength taking 3 tapas of the typical gastronomy of the area combined with a glass of white wine, a glass of red wine and a glass of cava, typical wine of Catalonia. A delight for the palate!
Then we will go to Montserrat, where we will climb the mountain on the rack train which will take us to the Monastery of Montserrat. The train takes 15 minutes to climb while enjoying a privileged and beautiful view of the mountain. Visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which houses the Romanesque carving of the twelfth century, the Verge Moreneta (the Black Virgin), patron saint of Catalonia.
We will have free time to visit the audiovisual room, where images of the history and creation of the monastery are projected. We will also taste the typical liqueurs created by the monks of the monastery, before starting the return to Barcelona.
